Spreadsheet Consultancy
Your data should be working harder than this.
I build bespoke Excel and Google Sheets solutions for small and medium-sized businesses across the UK. Dashboards, reports, automated processes, and financial models that give you a clear picture of your business and what to do about it.
Book a free discovery callMost businesses reach a point where their spreadsheets stop keeping up. Not because the data is bad. Because the tools built around it never quite caught up with how the business works now.
The reports take too long to produce. The dashboard someone built a few years ago answers questions you are no longer asking. The manual processes that used to take an hour now eat half a day. And nobody on the team has the time, or the skills, to fix it properly.
So things carry on. Decisions get made on incomplete information. Time gets spent on admin that should be spent on the business. And the problem quietly gets bigger.
Tuesday morning, you open a dashboard that has already pulled last month's data, calculated the numbers you care about, and flagged the two things that need your attention. The report that used to take half a day to produce is already done. The decision you needed to make is clearer than it was before you sat down. That is the difference between data that sits there and data that works.
That is the point where businesses start looking for a freelance Excel developer or Google Sheets specialist who can come in, understand the problem properly, and fix it without making it more complicated than it needs to be.
That is exactly where I come in.
Most spreadsheet problems are not really spreadsheet problems. They are decisions that needed better information, and tools that were never quite built to provide it.
What I build
Built around the decisions your business needs to make
A Real Example
You don't need to be good at Excel or Google Sheets to know if a business is on track
Different parts of the business, one way to read them: on track or not.
ON AI AND SPREADSHEET WORK
AI tools have genuinely changed what is possible, and there are situations where they produce something useful quickly. That is real, and worth acknowledging.
But there is a category of work where the limitations show up in ways that matter. AI-assisted spreadsheet work can look right until you use it in anger...hard-coded values where there should be dynamic formulas, logic that works for the example but breaks when the data changes, outputs that are plausible but quietly wrong in ways that are not obvious unless you know what to look for. Spotting those problems requires expertise. So does knowing when the approach is sound and when it is not.
For businesses replacing spreadsheets with AI-built solutions entirely, the risks are similar. Getting the requirements right takes more work than it first appears, testing edge cases is harder than it looks, and when something goes wrong in a system you cannot see inside, fixing it is its own project. What I bring is the expertise to know when a solution is genuinely fit for purpose. And to build something you can open, interrogate, and trust.
For financial models, reporting, and decision-support work, that matters
Who I WORK with
Businesses who know their data should be doing more
You know the feeling. The report takes two hours to produce when it should take ten minutes. The dashboard exists, but nobody quite trusts the numbers in it, and the person who built it has moved on or moved sideways. Someone patched something three years ago that held things together for a while, and now the whole thing is held together with workarounds that only one person understands - and even they are not entirely sure it is right. Every month it gets a little more fragile, a little more time-consuming, and fixing it properly keeps getting pushed back because there is always something more urgent.
That is the point at which most of my clients get in touch.
You do not need a data team. You do not need enterprise software. You need someone who can look at what you already have, understand how your business works, and build something that fits around it. I work with business owners, operations managers, and finance leads across the UK. The engagement is straightforward: we talk through the problem properly, agree on an approach, and I build something you can rely on.

Why work with me
An Actuarial Background. A Design-Led Approach
What I care about is not just whether the spreadsheet is correct. It is whether the person who commissioned it will use it with confidence, whether the team it gets handed to can maintain it, and whether it will still be fit for purpose when the business has moved on. Those are different questions to "does it work" and they tend to produce different results.
Most freelance Excel developers are technically capable. The formulas work. The logic is sound. But there is a difference between a spreadsheet that is correct and one that is genuinely useful...and that difference usually comes down to whether the person who built it has ever had to defend their numbers under pressure, communicate complex outputs to a non-technical audience, or hand something over to a team and trust that they can use it independently.
I spent over a decade in actuarial roles, progressing from technical analysis to team leadership, sitting professional exams throughout. That is a working environment where being wrong has real consequences, where the output has to hold up under scrutiny, and where clarity of communication matters as much as accuracy of calculation. That combination shapes everything I build.
The work is rigorous. It is also clean, well-structured, and designed to be used by real people in a real business, not just the person who built it.
How it works
A Straightforward Process. No Jargon, No Surprises
01
Discovery Call
We start by talking through the problem properly. What does the spreadsheet need to do? What decisions will it drive? Who will use it, and how? Understanding what the work is for is what separates a solution that gets used from one that gets filed. The call is free, and there is no obligation to proceed.
02
Scoping
Some clients want a detailed proposal with a clear scope before anything starts. Others prefer a more flexible arrangement as the project develops. Either approach works. What matters is that we agree on it before I begin, so there are no surprises on either side.
03
Build and Handover
I build the solution and deliver it. How involved you want to be during the build, and how much ongoing support you want afterwards, is entirely up to you. Some clients want to be across every step. Others prefer to come back when it is done. Both work fine.
Nothing is delivered as a surprise. If something changes during the build - the scope shifts, a better approach becomes obvious, or the original brief turns out to need revisiting - I flag it before acting on it. The work is iterative where that helps, and straightforward where it does not need to be complicated.
If your data should be doing more, let's talk
The discovery call is free and takes around thirty minutes. We cover what you currently have, what is not working, and what a solution would need to do. You leave with a clear sense of whether it is worth proceeding...and so do I. There is no obligation and no sales pitch. If it is not the right fit, I will say so.
